Honor Guard Uniform – warning!

Six Honor Guards attended the Festa event at Our Lady of Fatima in Ludlow Sunday, September 3.  In attendance were: Stanley Ciukaj, Alberto Matos, John Hurley, Thomas Vyzga, Daniel Therrien and myself.  It was a great event!

After the procession, when we were back at the “Police Station” to change out of our uniforms =, Danny let me know, “hey, I think a bird or something got you on the back.”  I took my blazer off and I could see wax on the back.  After further examination, I found much more on my pant leg.

When I got home, I consulted with Mr. Google and my mother-in-law.  We followed the steps to clean wax off my uniform.  First step was to scrape as much wax at you can with a plastic knife or one of the plastic clips you use to close a loaf of bread.  I used the clip and it worked great without damaging the fabric; I highly recommend it.

The next step we had to iron the slacks using a cool iron (not hot) with a cloth or paper towel above and below the fabric.  This removed 99% of the wax you see on the image directly above.  Unfortunately, I don’t have a photo of the post-ironing stage but I can tell you there were very faint black marks remaining where some of the wax spots were.

The next step was to have the uniform dry cleaned.  I ran it over to Stanley Cleaners in Feeding Hills on Friday and they called Monday to say it was ready.  I’m happy to say, I don’t see any evidence of wax on the blazer or slacks.

Holy Name Last Mass

A contingent of Honor Guards attended the last Mass at Holy Name/Ascension  church.  It was day with mixed emotions, such a beautiful building!
